Speed is the story

Apps open in a couple of seconds, menus never stutter, and the 2.0 GHz quad-core chip handles the interface's heavy artwork without breaking a sweat. On paper and in owner reports alike, the Max is a clear step up from the standard Fire TV Stick 4K in responsiveness.

Wi-Fi 6E in practice

On Wi-Fi 6E routers the Max takes full advantage of the 6 GHz band; on older routers the advantage shrinks but Wi-Fi 6 still helps in congested apartment buildings. There's no Ethernet port; Amazon's adapter adds one over micro-USB.

The interface, honestly

Fire OS devotes most of the home screen to promoted rows and auto-playing previews. You can reduce the autoplay in Settings > Preferences > Featured Content, and you should. Search results prioritize Prime Video but do show other services. If you live in Prime Video and Freevee, this is a feature; if you don't, it's noise.

Alexa and the remote

The Enhanced remote adds a settings shortcut and a recent-apps button. Voice control is the best in the category for smart-home commands — 'Alexa, show the front door camera' on the TV still feels like the future. Buttons aren't backlit; the Voice Remote Pro upgrade fixes that.
